2017 Porsche Macan Turbo with Performance Package First Test: More Is Better

2017 Porsche Macan Turbo with Performance Package First Test: More Is Better How much performance does the Performance Package actually add?For a 4,500-pound crossover, those are some seriously impressive numbers. And the experience behind the wheel is just as commendable as it looks on paper. "The Macan is the type of car you can get in and just drive for hours—it's equally at home at the track as it is on the highway, and, somewhat surprisingly, off-road," noted features editor Christian Seabaugh.

BMW announced its intentions on a new Competition Package for the 600-horsepower M5 last September. At the time, Motor1 reported that a BMW UK executive said, "the Competition Package will bring tweaked dynamics, and likely standard ceramic brakes, which are a $10,000 option on the standard car." Bimmerpost forum member "Esquire" just found out that the extra-super sedan will go into production in April at BMW's Dingolfing plant, and that it will be tuned to produce 25 more horsepower. A 625-hp M5 Competition would run 22 horses ahead of the Mercedes-AMG E63 S. What? Did you say "Horsepower War?"

2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo

2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo Holding the Panamera Turbo up to Porsche's sports cars reveals its true nature.A Porsche sedan used to seem like a strange idea, and the first one, the Panamera, did indeed look strange. Mixing two incongruent design briefs—911 styling cues and a need for rear-seat head- and legroom—resulted in a four-door hunchback that appeared as if it had been elongated uncomfortably in traction. Each first-generation Panamera we tested drove brilliantly, with enough 911 in the controls to set it apart from its big-sedan competition, but let’s be honest: That thing was hideous.

BMW could bring an M 5 Competition Package with 625 horsepower to the Geneva Motor Show.

According to Esquire, the gossip came courtesy of the head of the BMW Driving Experience while in attendance at the recent BMW M Ice Experience in Sweden. What's not surprising about Esquire's discovery is that BMW's launching a higher tune so close to the unveil of the standard sedan. Frank van Meel told Road & Track at last year's L.A. Auto Show that an M5 Competition was "closer than you'd think."

What is surprising is the UK executive's comment about the carbon brakes. The Competition Packages have typically involved a little more horsepower and a firmer suspension, new wheels, and other small chassis and cosmetic tweaks. The final Competition Package on the last-gen M5 levied a $10,000 surcharge over the entry sedan. If the carbon brakes come standard on the new Comp option and can't be deleted, buyers could be staring down a much heftier tariff to stand on the next step of M mountain. Most of the discussion thread about the news on Bimmerpost, in fact, was brand fans saying a potentially massive option price went against the spirit of the Competition Package.

We should know more in March, when the super-sharp M5 is expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show. And after that, we'll likely see the Competition Package extended to BMW SUVs like the X5 M, and perhaps even the X3 M.

Mazda MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF pricing is out for 2018 .
It's even closer to a Miata Coupe than the earlier PRHT.While the canvas-topped 2018 MX-5 starts from $25,295 as a manual Sport, the RF bypasses the Sport spec and starts directly from the Club, which for the RF means a $31,910 starting price, or $355 more than for 2017; the soft-top 2018 Club costs $29,555 in comparison, or a measly $120 hike. The manual Club has a limited slip differential, a front strut brace and Bilstein suspension.
