Refreshing or Revolting: 2018 Volvo XC60
Compared to the outgoing XC60, the new model features a more upright front end with a prominent grille flanked by Thor's hammer LED headlights.
The all-new 2018 Volvo XC60 compact crossover moves to the automaker's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) that underpins the full-size three-row XC90 crossover, the full-size S90 sedan, and V90 and V90 Cross Country wagons. Though it shares its platform with the larger XC90, the automaker wanted to give its volume model more distinct styling. Here is a look at some of the changes made to the new 2018 Volvo XC60.

The Volvo S 90 is getting stretched ! Learn about the long-wheelbase 2018 Volvo S 90 in this First Look from Motor Trend.

It’s everything we love in the Volvo XC90, just more car-ish, yet still plenty of Swede -ish. to know the details, first . Simply put, the S 90 looks like a slightly toned down four-door version of 2013’s stunning Volvo Concept Coupé, and that can only be a good thing.

Sales of the XC60 are on fire, with a million sold globally and sales up in its last year. So its replacement, which makes its North American debut at the New York auto show, needs more production space. Production of the smaller-selling S90 sedan is therefore being ousted from the Torslanda (greater Gothenburg), Sweden, plant to the one in Daqing, China. Fun fact: The average Chinese adult measures 6 inches shorter than the average Swedish adult, yet Chinese adults insist on riding in the back seats of sedans with stretched wheelbases. In the case of the S90, the Chinese stretch measures 4.7 inches. Daqing builds both wheelbases, but the U.S. marketing department has decided to upgrade all stateside-bound S90s to the big one starting in 2018.

Report: Volvo XC40 Compact CUV to Debut Later This Year
The first Volvo to ride on the new CMA platform
The XC40 occupies the same segment as the popular BMW X1 and Audi Q3. Visually, it should share much of the same handsome bodylines as the Volvo XC90 SUV and S90 sedan as previewed by the Volvo 40.1 concept (pictured). Inside, expect a premium environment evocative of the Swedish heritage.

2018 Volvo S 90 Grows by 4.5-inches, Adds Upgraded Rear Seats. Case in point – after just one year on our shores, the S 90 sedan is refreshed for 2018 , packing changes that include a 4.5-inch wheelbase stretch and revised rear seats.

The stretch boosts rear legroom by 4.5 inches to 40.5 inches, a claimed best-in-class dimension. And because this stretch was conceived from the beginning, the window openings, door cutlines, and so forth all work with the added length. There's no wiener-dog, bachelor-party-stretch-limo look going on here at all.

The stretch brings no nomenclature change but adds $1,150 to the price of both the T5 front-drive and T6 all-wheel-drive 2017 prices. (This also includes a new standard panoramic moonroof.) The lineup is expanding to include the option of all-wheel drive on T5 models ($2,200), though the T5 Inscription grade is no longer offered. There's also a new T8 twin-engine plug-in hybrid model, priced at $64,645 in Momentum trim and $69,145 in Inscription trim. (All T8 Volvos get upgraded battery chemistry that increases capacity from 9.2 to 10.4 kW-hr within the same package envelope for 2018.) Sadly, the most opulent Excellence trim grade will not be making the transpacific passage.

Volvo to Make U.S. Debut of All-New 2018 XC60 at 2017 New York Auto Show
The T8 trim of the compact SUV will receive a 400-horsepower plug-in hybrid engine.
Using Volvo's new Scalable Product Architecture, the XC60 will have a lot of similar design cues as the XC90, but it will be smaller in stature. Like its bigger brother, the 2018 XC60 will have several (three to be exact) engines to choose from. The T5 trim will come with a turbocharged four-cylinder making 250 horsepower, while the T6 will be a turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder totaling 316 horsepower. If customers really want to get sucked back into their seats, they can opt for the T8 trim with a twin engine plug-in electric hybrid producing a 400 horsepower.

The 2018 Volvo S 90 Is All About the Back-Seat Passengers. With the XC60, we are looking at the first member of the new 60-Series, which will be followed by the compact three-cylinder XC40 later this year.

The price of upgrading to Inscription grade increases by $2,000, but it includes a bunch of niceties that were not offered before, such as power sunshades for the backlite and rear-seat side windows, four-zone climate controls, and 19-inch wheels. Further lily gilding is available via a new Luxury package ($3,450), which adds front seat massaging, heated and ventilated rear seats, leather-covered grab handles and visors, a deluxe rear armrest, and a Nubuck faux suede headliner.

One more upgrade of note is to the user-interface screen, which gets software that improves response time and simplifies some menus (especially on the nav system, where they move from the bottom to the side of the screen, leaving more space for the map). There are also changes to the fonts and colors—and most of these enhancements can be applied to older Volvos with the same center screen. A software upgrade to the steering assist and lane keeping assist systems is also applied to the 2018 models, and it is backward compatible with earlier S90s.

Look for the longer S90s to start arriving this fall.

The Volvo XC40's Design: "Much More In Your Face" .
Design boss Thomas Ingenlath says the upcoming 40 Series will boldly go where no Volvo has gone before. For the new 60 Series, Volvo went for a more muscular exterior to emphasize that their mid-sized SUV is not the seven-seater luxury barge the XC90 was born to be. But according to Head of Design Thomas Ingenlath, the Swedes will go much further for their upcoming compacts, which can't just be smaller, yet sportier versions of the XC60, a car that they already made sharper to differentiate from the range-topping XC90. Instead, they have the chance to go as radical as they did with the P1800 many years ago.
