Ringbrothers to Debut Three Custom Rides at SEMA

Ringbrothers to Debut Three Custom Rides at SEMA
Prepare for a lot of horsepower
This year is no different and is shaping up to be the Ring's most prolific year with three custom cars that look to be absolutely crazy.

At this year’s SEMA show, Ringbrothers once again proved itself the king of this space, unveiling a wild, 1,080-hp 1972 AMC Javelin AMX . Looking over the Ringbrothers ’ Defiant! AMX (yes, the exclamation point is included), it’s hard to believe the

When it comes to custom American muscle cars, one of the all-time great customizing shops is Ringbrothers . Their creations feature incredible craftsmanship and tasteful design, and the cars the shop brought to SEMA this year are no different.

When everything is special, nothing is special. Custom, big-dollar builds based on Camaros, Mustangs, Chargers, Corvettes, and Challengers clog showhalls around the country, giving rise to an unfortunate normalization of the restomod musclecar.

Thankfully, there are still a handful of shops whose thinking is decidedly "out of the box," creating incredible builds that are almost more art than car. At this year's SEMA show, Ringbrothers once again proved itself the king of this space, unveiling a wild, 1,080-hp 1972 AMC Javelin AMX.

Looking over the Ringbrothers' Defiant! AMX (yes, the exclamation point is included), it's hard to believe the Wisconsin-based workshop began the project just one year ago. Even before head sponsor Prestone knocked on its door, Ringbrothers already knew an AMX would serve as the next canvas.

Defector 1969 Dodge Charger Is Ringbrothers' First Mopar Build

Defector 1969 Dodge Charger Is Ringbrothers' First Mopar Build Two inches shorter than the original car on a three-inch-longer wheelbase.Much of that labor went into dramatically modifying the Dodge’s body. Compared to a factory-fresh ’69 Charger, Defector’s trunk has been shortened by two inches in length, while its total wheelbase has been extended three inches. The new bodywork is draped in a BASF color called “Greener On The Other Side,” and there’s new chrome all over to accent the paintwork.

Javelins won the Trans-Am race series with AMC sponsorship in 1971 and 1972 , and independently in 1976. There were 27,696 Javelins manufactured in 1974 with only 4,980 of those as Javelin AMX models (17% of production) and even less were equipped with the very rare “GO” performance

Work on a 1972 AMC Javelin AMX began just a few days after Christmas at Ringbrothers in Spring Green and will be unveiled in November at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas.

As is the case with most of Ringbrothers' builds, the Defiant! is radically different than the car it began life as. To make space for the new engine, the Javelin's wheels were moved forward 6.5 inches, hid behind flared bodywork composed of carbon fiber.

Along with the front fenders, the hood, grille, and front valence are entirely redesigned in carbon fiber as well, accented by bespoke trim pieces machined from aluminum.

Power comes from a Hellcat-sourced 6.2-liter supercharged V-8, spitting 1,030 hp to the rear wheels through a Bowler automatic transmission. To keep things shiny side up, the Defiant! rides on a custom front subframe originally designed for a Camaro that holds modernized steering, sway bars, and RideTech suspension components.

Out back, a Chevy 12-bolt rear end is mounted on a four-link suspension designed by the Rings themselves. Six-piston Baer brakes hide behind large 20-inch HRE wheels wrapped in 285/30 tires up front and 335/30s in the rear.

As far as production goes, all Ringbrothers cars are one-offs, so you'll need to commission a separate Javelin build to complete your garage-mahal.

Back For The Attack! More Monster Mopars From SEMA 2017! #TENSEMA17 .
More amazing Mopar project cars from the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas! The dust from the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas has settled, and it's starting to sink in just how enormous a year it has been for Mopar builders and parts manufacturers. In case you haven't heard, SEMA is the trade organization that brings aftermarket parts manufacturers together with distributors and retailers, and their annual trade show is the venue where these two monumental forces merge to drive our favorite industry into the following year.
