Pint-Sized CUV Coupe a Stylish Alternative to X1The BMW X2 offers a coupe-like expression of the more conventional X1 subcompact crossover, much in the same way the X6 is lower-slung and swoopier than the X5. Just like the X1, the X2 will take motivation from a 2.0L turbocharged I-4 producing 228 hp and 258 lb-ft, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims a 0-60 time of 6.3 seconds, which is a few ticks faster than the likely heavier X1.
Fiat Powertrain Technologies Industrial is an Italian engine, axle, and transmission manufacturer. The company is a conglomeration of all the engine, transmission, and axle activities from Iveco, Case IH, and New Holland, bringing together 150 years of experience, while expanding the technological knowledge and capacity each offered individually.

FPT Industrial builds a broad range of diesel engines for such applications as on-road trucks, agriculture, construction, marine, and power generation. The engines range from 2.0 liters to as big as 20 liters. The company also offers several engines designed to run on natural gas and bio-methane. There is a broad range of oil-burners offered in the on-road segment, the largest powerplant being the Cursor 13, a 12.9L I-6 that produces 571 hp and 1,844 lb-ft of torque and meets Euro VI emissions standards thanks to its dynamic ECM.
The C13’s processor is engineered to ensure every internal engine part and supporting system works at its peak efficiency. The ECM controls the electronic common-rail fuel injection system for each cylinder independently for superior injection quality. Injection control helps manage engine and fuel temperatures, as well as promote balanced torque production. Further enhancing engine performance is an ECM-controlled variable-geometry turbocharger, which, in addition to boost, also pressurizes the cylinders during engine braking.

In order for any engine to perform at its peak potential for an entire lifespan, it needs a robust architecture. FPT’s new engine is founded on a strong block and sub-block made of stabilized cast-iron. Inside the casting are a micro-alloy steel crankshaft and balancing mass that are supported by seven main bearings. The main- and rod-bearing journals are induction-tempered for strength. At the end of the micro-alloy pressed-steel connecting rods are hypereutectic aluminum-alloy pistons. These slugs are designed with a cooling tunnel and a circular bowl that promotes swirl and improves fuel distribution in the cylinder to provide the greatest efficiency.
Mounted on top of the block is a nickel-stabilized, cast-iron, one-piece cylinder head, which features four valves per cylinder that are actuated by roller rocker arms and an overhead camshaft. The case-hardened steel camshaft has three lobes per cylinder (intake, exhaust, and injection) and is secured with seven journals. The cam’s injection lobes actuate unit pump injectors (nozzle and pump in a single unit) that are electronically controlled by the ECM. The camshaft’s timing comes from gears mounted at the back of the engine. This configuration increases durability and reduces any torsional effects.

The efficiency of the C13’s combustion provides a good start to low-emissions power generation. However, the engine’s HI-eSCR emissions after-treatment system is the main reason the C13 can operate without an EGR. The compact HI-eSCR is a regeneration-free (no active or forced regeneration) selective catalyst reduction system that uses a urea dosing-control strategy with a network of integrated sensors to monitor for excess NOx and ammonia. Also, inside the SCR is a thermally insulated high-turbulence mixer used for more efficient urea dispersion. Like the engine’s other components, the HI-eSCR is monitored by the ECM.
In addition to its regular engine development, FPT Industrial has a passion for racing. The company has successfully campaigned race versions of the Cursor 13 in Iveco race trucks for Dakar Rally events. For the 2018 race season, FPT has developed an updated version of the C13 that will power Iveco rigs in the Dakar and Africa Eco races. These detailed, specialized engines are able to produce up to 1,000 hp and operate efficiently from sea level to mountain passes at high altitude.

That's right, Road Runners were available with a single 2-barrel carb for the very first time. But get this, instead of the lame single exhaust used in other 318 applications, Road Runner retained the full dual exhaust system used on the (now optional) 340 small-block. Better yet, out back, every Road Runner got the cool slotted chrome and orange bazooka exhaust tips first seen in 1971.
