It will be packed with the latest offerings from Aston Martin, Bentley, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Ferrari, Porsche, Volvo, VW, and Hyundai. Ferrari

The biturbocharged AMG V12 engine is the stuff of legends. It ’ s six liters of forced-induction greatness producing 621 horsepower and an insane 738 pound-feet of torque. Thankfully, the changeover to hybrid V 8 s won’t be instantaneous.

Demand for AMG ’ s monstrous twin-turbo V12 is so high that they are switching production to another factory. It ’s a four-seater luxury soft top with 630 horsepower . It makes no sense. It doesn’t need to, apparently.

Do you remember the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, where Mercedes-AMG showed off the concept that would become the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe? Well, just in case you forgot, that concept had a hybrid variant of AMG's much-loved 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 that produced 805 horsepower. Unfortunately, that motor didn't make it into the production 4-Door, but AMG boss Tobias Moers says it will enter production at some point.

Just think about that number: 805 horsepower. That's nearly as much as a Dodge Demon, from an engine that is two-thirds the size, smaller if you don't count the massive positive-displacement supercharger. It's really, really hard not to love AMG, you know?

Mercedes-Benz to drop V6 engines in favor of new inline-sixes

Mercedes-Benz to drop V6 engines in favor of new inline-sixes Look for an I6 in the Mercedes-AMG CLS53 and E53.The M256 inline-six was announced in fall of 2016, but we're only just seeing the engine put into production. It will first make its debut in Europe under the hood of the new CLS450. In that application, the engine will make 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. In the Mercedes-AMG CLS53 and E53, the new 3.0-liter will make 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque.

Sure, we got an early peek at this yesterday, but now we know a lot more about it : it makes 805 horsepower from its hybrid drivetrain, which is derived from the W08 EQ Power + from the Mercedes- AMG Petronas Motorsport Formula 1 car.

Make . Model. Called the Mercedes- AMG GT Concept, you wouldn't know by name alone that it was a sedan. Coupled to it is an electric motor that Mercedes claims brings total output to a whopping 805 horsepower .

According to the interview with Moers, AMG will design its own battery pack to make sure it's as light as possible. The chassis for this new, semi-hypothetical hybrid will utilize lots of carbon fiber to increase stiffness and keep weight down. These are good things, since we almost always love the way a hybrid system affects power delivery in a performance vehicle, but detest the effects of added weight.

Moers went on to state that in addition to hybrid systems and fully-electric cars—which we've reported on previously—AMG is in the process of developing electric turbochargers for its gasoline engines. Now, when you think electric turbocharger, please don't think of the As Seen On TV things that get shoved into your Corolla's intake tube. These electric turbos are often used to preload the exhaust-driven turbochargers to help improve response time. Several production cars are already using the technology like the Audi SQ7.

Ferrari Says That A Hybrid V8 Is 'Coming For 2019,' Will Undoubtedly Power Hopes And Dreams

Ferrari Says That A Hybrid V8 Is 'Coming For 2019,' Will Undoubtedly Power Hopes And Dreams It seems like a Ferrari hybrid V8 is just around the corner. Speaking with Auto Express recently, company boss Sergio Marchionne gave some hints about what could be the first hybrid production-ready Ferrari since the LaFerrari. From the story:“A Ferrari V8 hybrid is coming for 2019. The test mules are around now,” Marchionne confirmed. Marchionne claims that the new powertrain “needs to become more of a traditional hybrid [than the LaFerrari] to fulfill a different role.”“We will embrace electrification. It will become a mainstay in our portfolio,” Marchionne went on to say.

Make no mistake, AMG ' s 577 horsepower Nürburgring slayer offers quite a thrill, but the new, equally loud yet much more politically correct 4.0 twin-turbo just can't match the theater and fury of the SLS Black's 622 horsepower naturally-aspirated V 8 .

Why switch the SL to AMG ' s fleet? It may be because of the new hybrid performance strategy spearheaded by AMG . The powertrain was previewed in 2017 in AMG ' s GT sedan concept, where it delivered 805 horsepower .

Much of this advanced powertrain technology is working its way down from AMG's nutty Project One hypercar (above), which boasts a hybrid drivetrain and a Formula 1-derived turbocharged V6 engine making more than 1,000 hp, you know, in case you forgot that we were living in a golden age of automotive engineering or something.
