  Raikkonen fastest in 2nd practice for Bahrain GP; Vettel 2nd Kimi Raikkonen topped the leaderboard ahead of Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel in the second practice session for the Bahrain Grand Prix on Friday. Raikkonen and Vettel were up front as cooler temperatures and nightfall matched the conditions for Sunday evening's race. Raikkonen's time of 1 minute, 29.8 seconds on the 5.4-kilometer (3.3-mile) desert circuit was a fraction quicker than Vettel's.Lewis Hamilton, who had a patchy first practice session, again looked a bit short of speed as he finished fourth, just behind Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas.''We definitely have got some work to do,'' Hamilton said.

Max Verstappen was a further 0.053s off in the Red Bull using the medium compound while Hamilton set the fourth fastest time after taking over Mercedes' driving duties in the afternoon. Sebastian Vettel put Ferrari top of the order on the opening day of the second pre- season test .

Verstappen steered his Red Bull to a lap of 1 minute, 17.538 seconds at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where he finished Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix in third place behind winner Lewis Hamilton and runner-up Valtteri Bottas.

Hamilton had the sixth fastest time and put in the most work of any driver with 151 laps in his Mercedes.

Renault's Carlos Sainz and Sebastian Vettel for Ferrari clocked the second- and third-quickest laps.

Many teams used junior drivers, defined as a driver who has completed two or fewer races, as required by F1 regulations for in-season testing.

Nicholas Latifi, driving for Force India, was the fastest of the inexperienced drivers with the fifth-best time behind Haas' Romain Grosjean in fourth.

Toro Rosso had to change a power unit and kept reserve driver Sean Gelael to a session-low 50 laps.

Testing in northeastern Spain concludes on Wednesday.

Hamilton leads the standings with 95 points after five races. Vettel is second with 78.

The 20-year-old Dutch driver clocked 1 minute, 13.085 seconds to eclipse veteran Kimi Raikkonen's time of 1:13.78 from 2004.Verstappen also made it a Red Bull 1-2, after his teammate Daniel Ricciardo was best in the first practice before drifting back in the afternoon.Lewis Hamilton was second quickest in both sessions.
