Alfa Romeo Giulia Named Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS <p>"Good" scores in all five crash categories</p>Alfa Romeo announced today that the Giulia has been named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. To get that rating, the Giulia had to earn a score of "Good" on all five types of crashes the IIHS tests, including small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint. It also has to earn an "Advanced" or "Superior" rating for front crash prevention and an "Acceptable" or "Good" headlight rating.

With Alfa Romeo putting a majority of its time, effort, and focus into both the Giulia sports sedan and the Stelvio SUV, the company's sports car, the 4C, has been pushed into the shadows. For the 2018 model year, it looks as if both the coupe and spider variants will continue twiddling their thumbs, as the only changes involve available options.

There are two changes for the 4C in 2018: An optional front fascia with carbon-fiber vents is added, and the interior with black leather seats and yellow stitching is now offered on black, white, and Basalt Gray 4C models. Previously, the yellow stitching was only available on cars with Giallo Prototipo (yellow) paint. Apparently, hyperspecific color coordination is not as important these days. To add the $1500 yellow stitching requires the $2000 leather upholstery, for a total upcharge of $3500.

The rest of the 4C formula remains exactly the same: raw, balanced, light, and feel-it-in-your-chest stylish. A carbon-fiber monocoque and an aluminum chassis keep the weight at bay, as the last 4C Spider we tested weighed just 2504 pounds. The rear-wheel-drive and mid-engine setup make for sublime handling, and power comes from a 237-hp turbocharged inline four-cylinder. Utilizing a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, our test car sprinted from zero to 60 mph in only 4.2 seconds and hit the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds at 107 mph.

Exclusive: See What it’s Like to Get Your Ford GT Delivered <p>We document the delivery of a half-million-dollar supercar</p>Naturally, there's a lot of paperwork to do and even more money to change hands, but we skipped all that and went straight to the dessert. Our friend's GT arrived by private transport and was inspected by the concierge before it even left the truck. After being unloaded and relocated to Galpin's private museum, the concierge removed all the protective covers and plastic films for final delivery and walked us through every button and screen. Then, he presented us with a special folio containing the build sheet, photos of the car under construction at Multimatic Inc., and the window sticker.

That's the good. Offsetting that is that the starting price of $57,495 for the coupe ($67,495 for the Spider) increases rapidly with options, the car lacks a manual-transmission option, and livability is rough. The 4C is a blast to drive, but it may be a little less enticing to own on an everyday basis. Of course, as we've mentioned before, there's some charm in owning what it is and not sacrificing its exciting driving character to fix its flaws as a daily driver. That's exactly what the 4C will continue to do for 2018.

2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Review: Bred to Thrill .
<p>This Italian stallion proves to be a one-trick pony focused on high performance over daily livability</p>Alfa Romeo’s new Stelvio is stimulating to drive and has special appeal for those in search of a rewarding road experience. But for daily driving needs, we found this mechanical sibling of the Giulia ill-suited for everyday use. The Stelvio excels when driven with gusto; the turbocharged engine delivers thrilling acceleration accompanied by a pleasant exhaust snarl. The transmission shifts quickly and smoothly when pressed on the road. But drive it more sedately and the transmission can stumble.
