I race every week sometimes 2-3 races ! I complete races from 5Ks to marathons (5 completed marathons, 10 half marathons ). I've only gotten faster and have probably lost another 20-30 pounds since. I still would like to lose more, and, of course, keep getting faster in every distance that I run.

Five to six days a week

What is your routine?
I do two to three runs during the week, which could be anywhere from 5 to 9 miles. I also lift weights two days a week. On the weekends I race and do a long run of 10 miles or more.

Do you race? How often?
I race every week...sometimes 2-3 races! I complete races from 5Ks to marathons (5 completed marathons, 10 half marathons). I completed my 1st ultra marathon (50K) on October 1, 2017. I also lift weights twice a week and bowl in a league once a week.

What’s the most rewarding part of running for you?
It’s seeing the improvement each and every week. Of course, those endorphins after each run really keep me going and looking forward to my next run or race.

What’s your weight loss journey?
I have yo-yoed with weight my entire adult life. I’ve dropped more than 50 pounds countless times, only to gain it back in epic proportions each and every time.

In March of this year (March 26th to be exact), something changed. I know I will never gain it back ever again. I was my heaviest weight ever on this day...352 pounds.

I was running in a 5K, doing my best, and hoping to finish under 45 minutes. A very special person in my life who was also competing in this race, ran back onto the course after she finished to push me to the finish. It was probably the most amazing gesture anyone has ever done for me.

The 5+ months since that day have been spectacular. It's been no turning back. She made me believe in myself again. After losing over 100 pounds, I found that I was getting obsessed with the number. With the guidance of this special person in my life, I decided to throw out the scale. I've only gotten faster and have probably lost another 20-30 pounds since. I still would like to lose more, and, of course, keep getting faster in every distance that I run. And I know I will!

What is the secret to your weight loss success?
Throwing out the scale! Also, don’t focus on the foods you can’t eat. Just don’t overeat. It’s that simple.

How do you stay motivated?
I run races every week, for starters. And I always have goals for the future. Having another runner in my life who “gets it” and pushes me all the time is my best source of motivation.

Do you have any favorite motivational quotes?

What are your current short and long-term goals?
I’d like to keep getting faster at each and every distance I run. For 2018, I plan to finish at least four marathons.

Being motivated and successful is all about believing in yourself.
