So, why would anyone put slimy goo on their face? The idea dates all the way back to the ancient Greeks, according to Jessica Jeong of the popular Korean beauty brand MISSHA.

How Bad Is It to Hold in a Sneeze?

How Bad Is It to Hold in a Sneeze? When mucus, an allergen, or an object like an insect gets into our nose, the body’s instinct is to get rid of it immediately, via a sneeze. A sneeze is also very powerful. Depending on the size of your nose and your lung capacity, the force is between 100 and 500 miles an hour! But holding the nose, or closing the mouth, means that all that air can’t escape, so it has to go somewhere else, which could cause unexpected damage.

In addition, the snail mucus doesn’t cause allergic reactions, so even people with sensitive skin can use it . Pamela 31 January 2014 : A few years ago when I was in Japan I tried this mask in one of the spa centers and it coasted 100 dollars!

Beautifully packaged, these masks are made with an ultrafiltrate of snail mucus . After washing my face, applying toner and essence, I opened my snail mask . It was thin, not slimy like I expected , and actually smelled okay. We even discussed Trump and the current political climate in Korea.

"Regular use of snail mucin has been shown to fade acne scars and hyperpigmentation, moisturize and firm skin, clear complexions and minimize pores," Jeong told TODAY Style about the ingredient featured in the company's Snail Hydro Gel mask.

In nature, the mucin acts as a defensive layer to protect snails' feet from environmental hazards such as rough surfaces, bacteria and UV rays. So experts believe that it could have similar protective effects on human skin.

"Believe it or not ... snail mucus just may be good for your skin but only if the correct source and concentration are used," dermatologist Dr. Neal Shultz told TODAY Style. Bottom line, Shultz said that the hormones in he mucus could lsightly improve fine lines in about eight weeks of use -- but you might ask well use Retin-A or glycolic acid instead.

How to Avoid a Red, Peeling Nose When You’ve Got the Sniffles

How to Avoid a Red, Peeling Nose When You’ve Got the Sniffles It’s bad enough that you need to carry wads of tissues with you at all times when you’re sick, but the peeling, red skin around your nose makes you feel even grosser. Tissues causes friction that rubs your nose raw. Plus, weirdly enough, a wet sniffer can mean dry skin. 'You’ve got mucus dripping down into the skin, and that makes the skin wet, and as it evaporates, it causes more dryness,' says Cameron Rokhsar, MD, FAAD, FAACS, associate clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The mask I tried was the Brown Rice Snail Essence Mask , and it ’s made by the Korean company Reinplatz. It still wasn’t completely dry when I took it off at 30 minutes, but I didn’t want to leave the snail mucin on my face for longer than the recommended time.

The URL which you used to call this program contains an unacceptable query string. And it was genuine damage

But if you've ever had the urge to slap on some snail slime, now's the time to try it.

And for those wondering about the slippery creatures themselves (Yes, the same snails used in the popular French dish, escargot) have no fear. No snails are harmed in the process!

Once they've been cleaned, the snails are transferred onto mesh holders with large containers underneath that carefully collect mucin as it's secreted.

Fun fact: This process happens at a snail's pace (pun intended!), taking nearly six hours before even a gram of mucin has been gathered.

With that much care put into a single product and all of the positive reviews on the SoKoGlam! website, I was psyched to try it out. But for me, it didn't exactly live up to the hype.

Applying the two-sheet face mask was a struggle in itself. It was super slippery, gooey and tough to handle.

Is it safe to use a neti pot every day?

Is it safe to use a neti pot every day? Many people with colds, the flu or allergies swear by neti pots to flush away nasal congestion and banish post-nasal drip. But are these little teapot-shaped devices with an extra-long spout safe? And is it OK to flush your sinuses with saline solution every day? The Food and Drug Administration recently updated its advisory about neti pots, cautioning people to use only distilled, sterile or previously boiled water. For the most part, experts says, neti pots are safe — as long as you're careful to clean them regularly and use the right source of water in the saline solution.

Snail Mucus . For the woman who doesn’t buy into that whole moisturizing with whale snot trend. (And not just because I actually recently ordered a snail mucus mask on that Totally Flippin’ Cool Korean Makeup Crush Site. Even more fun!

It took a good five minutes of fumbling before the pieces made it onto my face. And even then, I accidentally put the bottom piece on upside-down ... but once it was on, there was no going back.

I left the mask on for 25 minutes as the box recommended. At first, it slid down my face in a sluggish crawl, but after about 10 minutes, it started drying and curling up at the edges. That's when I started kicking myself for never adjusting that bottom piece!

The overwhelming amount of goo made it hard to feel like it was ever actually working, and I did feel suffocated at times.

Not to mention, I also looked terrifying (or like I was headed to a snail masquerade ball) and preferred not to spend any extra time in the mask.

I noticed little to no difference after using the product. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I already have naturally dry skin? Some other comments mentioned that oily skin felt drier and tighter after using.

So it could just be my experience. At $6 a set, it can't hurt to try it out!
