Flight delays have a way of testing even the most even-keeled traveler’s patience. After all, there’s little you can do about an aircraft that’s three hours late, an ambiguous mechanical issue, or a thunderstorm that’s parked itself over the runway—besides wish you were headed to a tropical beach, that is.

According to a report from travel intelligence firm OAG, which analyzed 57 million flight records from 2017, Latvia's airBaltic is the world’s most punctual airline, with an on-time performance (OTP) of 90.01 percent. (To qualify, flights must arrive or depart within 14 minutes and 59 seconds minutes of their scheduled time.) Other on-time carriers: Hong Kong Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Copa, and Qantas, which round out the top five. Even better? Qantas made our list of the top 20 airlines in the 2017 Reader’s Choice Awards; the Australian airline, along with Hawaiian Airlines, was also recently ranked one of the safest airlines in the world.

Someone's Suing an Airline for Serving Sparkling Wine Instead of Champagne

Someone's Suing an Airline for Serving Sparkling Wine Instead of Champagne
He's demanding compensation for the difference in cost
When Daniel Macduff booked a February flight with budget Canadian airline Sunwing to Cuba, he had one detail in mind, and he didn't care how stupid he looked while getting it: the "complimentary on-board Champagne toast" that was advertised on the airline's site. But when he received sparkling white wine in a plastic cup, Macduff knew he needed to stand up, take charge, and change the world by suing the hell out of them.

For the Major International Airlines category FlightStats analyzed the on - time arrival performance of the largest airlines in the world based on Available Seat Miles. In addition, each airline was required to have more than 1,000 scheduled flights to 3 or more geographical regions.

US carrier Delta is the world ’ s most on - time airline , according to new research by aviation and air travel data service FlightGlobal (incorporating FlightStats). A full list of the airline on - time performances across seven categories can be seen here.

In addition to being highly punctual, many of the ranked airlines are also LCCs, or low cost carriers. "This year, six of the Top 20 airlines are LCCs, up from four last year and two in 2015," said OAG. In other words? You won't have to break your bank to arrive on time.
