a group of people standing in front of a store© pio3/Shutterstock The time you spend in an airport can take a serious toll on your wallet. We get it! Whether you linger around your terminal for 10 minutes or 10 hours, that impulse to spend is real. You’re probably even guilty of purchasing the things you should never, ever buy at the airport. But if you have ever whittled your vacation savings down before you even reached the destination, it’s not necessarily your fault. Actually, you might even blame the airport. According to consulting company Intervistas, airports are secretly designed to make you spend more money.

The 4 Cheapest Days for Thanksgiving Travel This Year

The 4 Cheapest Days for Thanksgiving Travel This Year It pays to book Thanksgiving flights early and to fly on these four dates. What are you waiting for?Airfare will only become more pricey — and seat selections will only dwindle — as the holiday nears, according to CheapAir.

One obvious example of how sneaky stores and retailers bribe us into spending more money is the existence of coupons. On the surface, coupons seem like a way to save money , and in some cases they definitely are – coupons for things you actually do need (like food or a car part)

Restaurant owners, managers, and servers know that you ’re in a spendy mood when you go out to eat, and there are plenty of ways (some of which are pretty sneaky ) that they can coax you into spending more money than you intended.

<p>I’m one of the rare few who actually revels in the whole airport experience. I get a thrill out of spotting the <a href=Benefit Cosmetics makeup kiosks, and I welcome the challenge (and it is often a challenge!) of finding a somewhat healthy vegan meal at food courts.

But which airports are really the best? I was curious to know, so I went straight to the people who spend the most time in them — flight attendants — and asked which airports they love most, and why?

Ahead, 11 flight attendants (from several different airlines) share their top destinations for passing the time between flights. Will it make you want to spend your next vacation kicking it in Terminal 5 instead of hitting the beach? Probably not. But at the very least, these rave reviews might help you decide where to schedule an unavoidable layover.

Here’s how: Their walkways are curved to the left, and because most people are right-handed, a leftward curve will cause you to instinctively look to the right as you walk. The result? Something will inevitably catch your eye, and before you know it, you’re at the cash register with an armful of duty-free alcohol and perfume, a book, and a giant pack of M&Ms. The shops themselves are also strategically located. You’ll find most of them in the areas with the highest foot traffic, for example. Some airports are even arranged in a way that forces fliers to walk through the retail area to get to their gates. And beware of a winding path; duty-free shops with 'serpentine walk-through' designs have 60 percent more sales 'because 100% of customers are exposed,' Invervistas reported.
