A body has been found in Mississippi during the search for a double murder suspect who confessed to killing his mother and friend in a lengthy Facebook post.

The Jasper County Sherriff’s Department confirmed Monday that the body of Casey James Lawhorn was found in Vossburg, Mississippi; the death appears to be the result of a self-inflicted gunshot. The body was discovered hours after police found Lawhorn’s abandoned vehicle on I-59 near the Vossburg exit.

The 23-year-old male had been on the run since he admitted to shooting dead his mother Vi Lawhorn and friend Avery Gaines in the early hours of Sunday, April 8.

Lawhorn then described how he “nervously paced for a few minutes” before deciding to shoot his friend Gaines in the head as he slept on his living room floor.

“She started screaming the worst scream I've ever heard. Movies really don't do justice to how true terror sounds,” he said. "She shouted, 'You shot me! You've killed me! Why?' Once I got the jam fixed, I turned on the light so I wouldn't miss again. I shot at her twice more and it was over."

Lawhorn described how he has been suicidal “since late high school” and that he has been heading to an “unavoidable tragedy” since he started at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU).

He added how he intended to take his life following the double homicide as the subsequent legal process involved would be a “horrible waste use of state money.”

Police previously warned the public to stay away from Lawhorn if they spot him as he was considered armed and very dangerous.
