Democrats nominate Oprah by acclamation

Democrats nominate Oprah by acclamation It's estimated that Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders combined to spend $326 million competing for the Democratic nomination in 2016. But it may not be so expensive in 2020. Democrats have figured out how to do it a lot cheaper, next time around: no primary, no contest, no national convention. Just nominate Oprah Winfrey by acclamation. That's the buzz sweeping the Democratic Party today. Ever since her speech at the Golden Globes, Democrats nationwide have been positively swooning over Oprah: hoping, pleading, begging her to run for president in 2020 against Donald Trump. Meryl Streep is leading the charge.

Speaking with Variety about her new documentary, Jane Fonda in Five Acts, Fonda shed some light on the cringe-worthy segment.No. It wasn’t like I was upset. I was stunned,” Fonda explained in the new interview. “It was so inappropriate. It showed that she’s not that good of an interviewer.” Fonda also shared that she wouldn’t rule out another chat with Kelly “if she comes around and learns her stuff.” On Tuesday, Fonda poked fun at Kelly when she and Lily Tomlin appeared on Today to promote season 4 of their Netflix show, Grace and Frankie. Idris Elba Wants to See a Female James Bond Already .
Idris Elba has long been a fan favorite to take over as 007. But in a new interview, Elba gracefully suggested that he’s not the right man for the James Bond job — because it might be time for a woman to step into the beloved role. “I would be interested in having a Bond character other than being a male,” he mused in a video shared by Variety on Facebook. “It could be a woman, it could be a black woman, it could be a white woman. But I think that character, everyone would like to see [them] do something different with it, you know. Why not?” Elba, who has been dogged with Bond rumors for years, has categorically denied that his future lies with downing shaken martinis and taking covert meetings with M. In the meantime, potential women Bonds will have some time to prepare for the audition process, as Daniel Craig still has one more sequel to make for the storied franchise, marking the 25th installment and expected out in 2019. He followed Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery, Roger Moore and more in taking on the titular role. Perhaps this year’s much-anticipated Ocean’s 8 will help pave the way for the female-driven spy thriller. After all, 2017 was dominated by women in blockbuster roles; Bond’s makers might be very ready to consider a new path by the time 2020 rolls around.
