Entertainment Robert De Niro Slams Donald Trump's "World of Dishonesty and Greed" at Fulfillment Fund Benefit
Trump boldly wades into cutting federal government down to size -- will it work?
Of all the promises candidate Donald Trump made during the 2016 presidential campaign, none will be more difficult to fulfill than cutting the size and cost of the federal government. That’s because Congress, which must decide whether to keep a federal agency, has the final word in such matters and spending – especially spending in one’s home state or district – is what keeps so many of them in office.
The occasion was a charity fundraising dinner, but Robert De Niro was anything but charitable in his remarks about President Donald Trump and what he called “the Trump world of dishonesty and greed.”
The dinner March 13 at the Dolby ballroom in Los Angeles’ Hollywood & Highland complex benefited the Fulfillment Fund, an organization that assists underprivileged children in receiving a higher education.
De Niro began by speaking about the Fund’s work and then said “a college deduction is important, but education without humanity is ignorance. Look at our president. He made it through the University of Pennsylvania, so he was exposed to a quality education, but he’s still an idiot. And he lacks any sense of humanity or compassion.”
APNewsBreak: Trump Jr. partners with donor who pitched gov't
Donald Trump Jr. has a previously undisclosed business relationship with a longtime hunting buddy who helped raise millions of dollars for his father's 2016 presidential campaign and has had special access to top government officials since the election, records obtained by The Associated Press show. The president's eldest son and Texas hedge fund manager Gentry Beach have been involved in business deals together dating back to the mid-2000s and recently formed a company — Future Venture LLC — despite past claims by both men that they were just friends, according to previously unreported court records and other documents obtained by AP.
“Of course, he did have to overcome the curse of growing up rich and spoiled,” said the actor. “And endure the heartbreak of bone spurs. Maybe that had an effect.” (After his college graduation in 1968 Trump lost his deferment and could have been drafted in a year when roughly 300,000 men entered the army through the Selective Service system with most going to Viet Nam. He received a medical deferment for having bone spurs in his heels and was not called up.)
“And it is especially appropriate tonight, Trump treats education as a con – a way to make a profit at the expense of the suckers. Anyone here planning to get their education at Trump University?” De Niro asked rhetorically. “To be silent in the face of such villainy is to be complicit.”
Robert De Niro Slams Donald Trump's "World of Dishonesty and Greed" at Fulfillment Fund Benefit
On the same night the President was in Los Angeles for a fundraiser, the two-time Oscar winner took the chance to publicly excoriate him, again. The occasion was a charity fundraising dinner, but Robert De Niro was anything but charitable in his remarks about President Donald Trump and what he called “the Trump world of dishonesty and greed.
De Niro ended his comments about Trump by saying, “But don’t be discouraged, young people, get your degree from a legitimate institution; you don’t have to become president – you can get an honest job. Or become president – why not? – and restore integrity and dignity to the job.”
Midway through the speech there were one or two boos, but when De Niro yelled back at the dissenters he received a massive round of applause.
The two-time Oscar winner’s speech came on a day when the president was making his first visit to California since the election. While the actor was speaking, the president was finishing a fundraising dinner at the Beverly Park mansion of Edward Glazer, co-chairman of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then went on to spend the night at a Downtown hotel.

Amazon’s latest patent is a delivery drone that understands when you shout at it .

Amazon has filed a patent for a delivery drone that responds when you call or wave at it.
The patent was initially filed in July 2016 and published this week. “The human recipient and / or the other humans can communicate with the vehicle using human gestures to aid the vehicle along its path to the delivery location,” the patent states. The patent gives an example of a “shooing” motion, which the drone would recognize and stop moving closer. The drone would also then adjust its speed and the direction it’s moving in. If a person waves their arms in a welcoming manner, the drone can interpret the gesture as an instruction to deliver the package.
