Maybe now we know the reason President Donald Trump cancelled the Philadelphia Eagles’ visit to the White House — he was scared of being embarrassed.

The Eagles were set to visit the White House on Tuesday to be congratulated for winning the Super Bowl. However, some players did not want to attend because of a severe difference in political viewpoints from the president.

According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, the Eagles’ owner left it up to the players to decide if they wanted to go, and the team was going to send a small group for the visit. Just how small of a group? Garafolo says it was going to be fewer than 10 players.

Philadelphia mayor blasts Trump as 'fragile egomaniac' after Eagles snub

Philadelphia mayor blasts Trump as 'fragile egomaniac' after Eagles snub Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney (D) is slamming President Trump for disinviting the Philadelphia Eagles to the White House. In a statement on Monday, Kenney called Trump a "fragile egomaniac," saying that he was "afraid" to host the Super Bowl champions after some pla yers said they would boycott the visit."Disinviting them from the White House only proves that our President is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend," Kenney said in a statement.

Having such a small group of players at the White House would have led to endless mocking. If the report is true, it’s no surprise the image-conscious president cancelled the visit to make it look like he had the upper hand. This is very similar to what he did to the Golden State Warriors.

Chris Long is among the most outspoken players in the NFL and on Wednesday set his sights on Roger Goodell over the commissioner’s silence amid the drama this week involving Donald Trump abruptly calling off the Philadelphia Eagles’ planned visit to the White House. Reports surfacing in the wake of Trump’s last-minute announcement Monday evening appeared to indicate among the reasons the President canceled the event was that it appeared the Eagles would only be sending a small contingent to the White House.
