Mayfield: Kyler Murray will 'break all my records' at Oklahoma

Mayfield: Kyler Murray will 'break all my records' at Oklahoma Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray is as talented as they come, but he has some humongous shoes to fill taking over for Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield, who was also the No. 1 pick of the 2018 NFL Draft. But the man he’s replacing (if he wins the starting job this year) has complete faith in Murray.“He’s going to break all my records,” Mayfield said recently of his projected successor, per Bleacher Report’s Matt Hayes. “He’s that good.”Murray is also a top MLB prospect who will likely be a high pick Monday night.

Kyler Murray confirmed on Monday night that he will play football this fall, and he says the Oakland A’s know about it.

The Oklahoma Sooners two-sport athlete was drafted No. 9 overall by the A’s following a big season for the baseball team this spring. Murray also is in line to replace Baker Mayfield as the Sooners’ quarterback in the fall.

The redshirt sophomore told the media that he will play football this fall.

According to ESPN’s Jake Trotter, Murray said he’s already discussed his plans to play football with the A’s.

Murray is set to make around $4.5 million guaranteed based on his draft slot, which has left many to wonder why he would consider playing football and risk injury, not to mention delay his development as a baseball player. The easy answer is because he wants to.

Murray was a two-sport star in high school — an All-American in both — played some quarterback for Texas A&M in 2015 and backed up Mayfield last fall. He’s been waiting a long time for this kind of opportunity and probably wants to see it through after putting in years of work.

To the NCAA, Murray is different than other athletes who get paid .
The NCAA lets players get paid in one sport while playing another in college. On Wednesday, news broke that Oklahoma quarterback and outfielder Kyler Murray — the ninth overall pick in the MLB Draft by the A’s — had agreed to a roughly $5 million contract that allows him to play football for the Sooners for one year.
