Schumer: Trump nominee must give personal views on abortion, hot-button issues

Schumer: Trump nominee must give personal views on abortion, hot-button issues Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) called on President Trump's forthcoming nominee to the Supreme Court to their personal views on abortion and hot-button legal issues, calling a pledge to respect precedent "almost meaningless."Schumer, speaking from the Senate floor, said there is "ample evidence" that whoever Trump picks would rule to undercut pre-existing conditions, bolster "corporate interest" and overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that legalized the right to an abortion.

Trump is expected to announce his supreme court pick at any moment. Now, though they are vowing to fight , the few Democratic senators and aides whom I have consulted are saying there is little they can do to stop the new nominee.

After months of whining about Republicans blocking Obama’s late term Supreme Court nominee, resulting in what Rachel Maddow dubbed a “stolen seat,” Schumer has vowed that Democrats will now attempt to do the exact same Learn Trump ’ s #1 Pick To Replace Kennedy At The Supreme Court .

The Senate's top Democrat says President Donald Trump's nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court puts abortion rights and health care protections for women "on the judicial chopping block."

New York Sen. Chuck Schumer says by picking Kavanaugh, Trump is delivering on his pledge to "punish" women for their choices.

He says he will fight the nomination "with everything I have." He's urging people to make their voices heard, an indirect reference to voicing their objections to senators.

Schumer says if Kavanaugh is confirmed, "women's reproductive rights would be in the hands of five men on the Supreme Court."

Schumer and other Democrats have cited campaign statements Trump made to assert that any of the candidates Trump mulled would oppose abortion rights and the Obama-era health care law.

Dem senator 'anxious to hear' if Supreme Court pick thinks Trump can pardon himself .
Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) on Sunday said she is "anxious" to hear if President Trump's Supreme Court nominee thinks the president can pardon himself. "I'm so anxious to hear whatever this nominee has to say," Cantwell said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "Is the president able to pardon himself?"Cantwell said she was concerned about whether a potential nominee would "fight to protect" special counsel Robert Mueller in his investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
