Technology Android Oreo 8.1 is now out on the Essential Phone
Google may launch Android P's developer preview in mid-March
You might see a glimpse of Google's next mobile platform very, very soon. Evan Blass, a well-known source of tech leaks, has tweeted that Mountain View is targeting a mid-month release for Android P's first developer preview. We don't know what "P" stands for yet, but since March 14th is Pi Day, some people are speculating that Android's upcoming flavor is "Pie." According to previous reports, Android P will have the power to prevent idle apps from being able to access your camera and mic.
Android Oreo 8.1 is now out on the, the company announced on today. Essential Phone users just have to check their phones and download the update. Android Oreo 8.1 had previously been . Essential has said that it was because of “several stability issues.”
The new version of Oreo includes a faster start up and sign in, smart text selection, instant apps, and the ability to play a windowed video while browsing other tabs. It also has Google Play Protect, which scans apps for malware before and after installation.
We're excited to announce the full release of Android Oreo 8.1 on Essential Phone! Check your phone now for the update.— Essential (@essential)
Samsung will drop its mobile movie editor when Android P arrives .
Samsung phones have long had a built-in Movie Maker app that lets you spice up your clips -- helpful if you'd rather not hunt down a third-party app just to do more than trim your footage. However, you'll soon have to kiss it goodbye. The latest version of Movie Maker is warning users that the app will "no longer be provided" when the Android P update arrives. That could take a long while (the stock Android P release likely won't be ready until late summer, let alone Samsung's version), but you won't want to dilly dally.
