Sharp's smartphone robot gets a more 'affordable' WiFi version

Sharp's smartphone robot gets a more 'affordable' WiFi version If you've been waiting for a price drop for Sharp's super adorable robot phone, your wait is sort of over. As of October 6th, you can get a RoBoHon for 138,000 yen (excluding tax) which is about $1,230. That's a notable 60,000 yen or $530 drop from the original price, but there's a catch: this new offering doesn't come with cellular function. Apart from that, this WiFi-only RoBoHon (SR-02M-W) is otherwise identical to its LTE counterpart (SR-01M-W), packing the same Snapdragon 400 chipset, Android 5.

We’re a couple weeks away from Razer unveiling its very first smartphone , but it looks like we may be getting some early details today. Most flagship Android phones have 4 GB of RAM right now, with some including 6GB.

We’re a couple weeks away from Razer unveiling its very first smartphone, but it looks like we may be getting some early details today. Phone Radar spotted a listing on GFXBench for a “Razer Phone” that lists a bunch of high-end but very plausible details on what may be inside the upcoming phone.

According to the listing, which has since been removed, the phone will have a 5.7-inch display with a 2560 x 1440 resolution — about the same as an LG G6. It’ll have a Snapdragon 835 processor and include a single 12-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front camera, and 64GB of internal storage.

Qualcomm’s 5G dreams are closer to reality

Qualcomm’s 5G dreams are closer to reality A year after Qualcomm introduced its first 5G modem, the Snapdragon X50, the company is making another next-generation mobile push. Qualcomm announced today that it's made the first 5G data connection using the X50, which reached gigabit speeds using the 28 GHz millimeter wave spectrum. Additionally, the company is also debuting its first 5G smartphone reference design, which will help guide phone makers as they start working on next year's devices. While the 5G data connection news doesn't sound very exciting on its own, it's a sign that Qualcomm's technology is closer to something that consumers can actually use.

According to a new report, Razer ’ s first smartphone might feature a whopping 8 GB of RAM . The listing mentions that this device will have 8 GB of RAM . This is unusual since most flagship smartphones haven’t gone beyond 4 GB of RAM , only some offer 6 GB of RAM .

Razer is preparing a mobile device and from the looks of these specs, it could feature impressive hardware, including 8 GB of RAM . Razer Might Get Into the Smartphone Business With the Nextbit Acquisition.

That’s all pretty standard stuff for a flagship smartphone in 2017, but there is one really standout spec here: the phone will apparently come with 8GB of RAM. Most flagship Android phones have 4GB of RAM right now, with some including 6GB. So this leak suggests that Razer could be about to jump ahead.

Razer is supposedly planning to position its phone as a device for gaming, which makes sense given that Razer is a gaming company. Extra RAM ought to help with that, but it’s by no means a guarantee that this phone will perform better than its competitors. Ultimately, what’ll matter is how well the whole package has been optimized.

The phone will apparently be running a custom version of Android based on top of Nougat. That means it’ll be slightly out of date when it comes out, but it’s not too surprising to hear that there’ll be some customizations. Razer’s phone comes from the ashes of Nextbit, which built some really smart cloud features into the operating system. It’s possible we’ll see some of those once again here. (It’d be a waste if we didn’t!) And I wouldn’t be surprised to see Razer build in some custom gaming features, too. Here’s hoping for a Chroma integration.

An announcement for the phone is planned for November 1st.

The first iPhone X units have shipped from China, but things aren’t looking good .
Some lucky buyers will get their iPhone X on November 3rd when the handset is set to launch in initial markets, but most Apple fans will have to wait weeks or even months to have one shipped to their door. A new report says that Foxconn has started shipping the iPhone X, but only 46,500 units are included in this first batch that was just shipped out.
