President Trump's Twitter Account Vanished for 5 Minutes and the Internet Lost Its Mind President Donald Trump’s Twitter account appeared to disappear for several minutes on Thursday night before returning to normal. It was not immediately clear why the president’s @realdonaldtrump account vanished. Throughout his candidacy and since he was elected president, Trump has used Twitter as a frequent means of communication, tweeting everything from jokes to criticisms to important policy announcements. Some of his tweets have attacked individuals and caused some to argue that the messages violate the social media platform’s rules about abuse. As Twitter users tried to figure out what was happening to Trump’s account on Thursday, many piled on in making jokes about the president’s being banned from the platform. trump thought that if he deleted his twitter that was like resigning— sonia saraiya (@soniasaraiya) November 2, 2017 Polls suggest deleting his Twitter is like the most popular thing Trump could do other than require background checks on all gun purchases— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) November 2, 2017 I hope someone makes a movie someday about that minute the whole world was happy.— Aaron Durand (@everydaydude) November 2, 2017 goddamn it. well, now we all know how la la land felt— demi adejuyigbe (@electrolemon) November 2, 2017 So is trump done on Twitter cause pic.twitter.com/hbRITB3xJU— Akilah Hughes (@AkilahObviously) November 2, 2017 Well-played, President Trump! President Trump has every intention of tweeting while he's in China, "so long as he can access his Twitter account," a senior administration official said Wednesday.

"The president will tweet whenever he wants," the official told reporters aboard Air Force One, as Trump headed to Beijing for the third leg of his 11-day trip across Asia. "That's his way of communicating directly with the American people."

Twitter and other Western social media platforms are blocked in China, where the government maintains an iron grip on Internet access. Asked if Trump would be able to sidestep the ban, the official said that the U.S. likely had the gear aboard Air Force One to do so.

In a tweet shortly after Democrat Ralph Northam was declared the winner of Virginia's gubernatorial election Tuesday night, for example, the president took to the social media site to place blame on Republican Ed Gillespie for his defeat.

And before that, Trump tweeted his condolences to the victims of a mass shooting at a Texas church.
