  Steelers LB Ryan Shazier hurts back, taken off on cart Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier has been hospitalized after hurting his back and being carted off the field early in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. Shazier tackled receiver Josh Malone in the legs, fell to the ground and grabbed the middle of his back. The 25-year-old was strapped to a backboard and taken off. He was moving his arms on the field.The Steelers said Shazier was going to a hospital for evaluation and wouldn't return to the game.It's a significant setback for one of the NFL's top defenses. The Pro Bowler from Ohio State leads the team in tackles and has three interceptions.

While the Steelers have yet to put out an official news release, here are some of the reports on Shazier ’s status: Steelers told Ryan Shazier has a spinal contusion and that some swelling is involved.

If reports are true, the Steelers received some very good news on their Pro Bowl inside linebacker.

As the Pittsburgh Steelers get prepared to board their flight back to Pittsburgh after beating the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13, reports are starting to leak regarding the situation of Ryan Shazier.

Shazier left the game on a stretcher, didn’t show any mobility in his lower body, and was taken to the University of Cincinnati hospital. While the Steelers have yet to put out an official news release, here are some of the reports on Shazier’s status:

At this point, Shazier returning to the lineup should be the last on everyone’s mind. Shazier’s health and well-being should be paramount, and all of the above reports are good news in this regard.

If Shazier is able to return to the football field, it is merely icing on the cake.

Report: Ryan Shazier slowly improving after spinal surgery .
Reports state the talented young linebacker is gradually improving after spinal surgery earlier this week. At this point, any good news is something to cling to when you are talking about Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier. After suffering a back injury in the Week 13 game vs. the Cincinnati Bengals, Shazier spent two days in a Cincinnati hospital before being flown back to Pittsburgh to be treated at UPMC. It was there the team reported Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery to help repair his injured back.
