  Attorneys say evidence tampering in James Jordan murder FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The killer serving life in prison for murdering NBA legend Michael Jordan's father has seen his bid for a new trial postponed for months after a new state law forced off the judge weighing his request. The Fayetteville Observer reports the law affects Daniel Andre Green, who with an accomplice killed James Jordan along a North Carolina road. His body was dumped in a South Carolina swamp.The law stops retired judges who return to the bench to fill judicial gaps from taking lengthy cases unless they involve business disputes.

The Cleveland Indians are mourning the loss of an important member of their franchise’s history, as manager Terry Francona ’s father Tito passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 84 .

The Indians announced his death Wednesday.

Francona played for nine teams from 1956-70, batting .272 with 125 home runs and 656 RBIs in his career.

His best seasons came in Cleveland, where he was an All-Star in 1961 and finished fifth in American League MVP voting in 1959.

After his career concluded in 1970 Francona completely stepped away from baseball, never managing or coaching at any level. He went on to become the director of parks and recreation in New Brighton, Pa. until he retired in 1997.

His son Terry also played for the Indians and went on to manage the Red Sox to World Series titles in 2004 and 2007.
