Rangers GM: Lincecum apologized for beating us in World Series

Rangers GM: Lincecum apologized for beating us in World Series Tim Lincecum, the newest member of the Texas Rangers, is asking for forgiveness. Lincecum and the Rangers have a history with one another from the 2010 World Series, when the two-time Cy Young winner - then still a star with the San Francisco Giants - broke hearts across the Metroplex with a brilliant performance in that series, including a Game 5 for the ages that clinched the Giants' championship.

There's simply no denying Corey Brewer's impact.

The Thunder are 3-0 since he entered the starting lineup. Since then, he's averaged 15 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game and has given the Thunder a noticeable jolt of energy, on both sides of the ball.

Brewer's impact hasn't been overlooked by Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony, and it wasn't any more evident than during Monday night's 106-101 victory over the Kings.

The game was closer than many felt it should have been. The Kings, after all, have nothing to play for. The Thunder, on the other hand, have every incentive to win as many games as possible.

Ex-Trump Aide Lewandowski Going Before House Russia Panel Again

Ex-Trump Aide Lewandowski Going Before House Russia Panel Again Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski was due to appear Thursday for his second interview by the House Intelligence Committee, despite uncertainty over whether he’ll have anything more to say. Load Error Lewandowski, who was expected to arrive for the closed-door interview at 11 a.m. Washington time, balked at providing some answers in his first appearance on Jan. 17. The committee is looking into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign and whether anyone close to President Donald Trump colluded in the meddling.

Despite that, the upstart Kings held a lead as late as the third quarter, and even though the Thunder were able to take control of the game in the fourth, the Kings were twice able to cut the lead to just three points, the final time being with about 24 seconds remaining in the game.

Appropriately, it was Brewer who went to the line and iced the game with two clutch free throws. In the end, he tallied 16 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony each took note.

"He's been doing a good job," Westbrook said of Brewer since his arrival.

"He's getting his hands on basketballs. Obviously, being savvy and knowing the game is a huge part. He's doing a great job."

Anthony echoed those sentiments, as well.

"We knew what he could bring," Anthony said.

"I think everyone knew what he brings to the game defensively."

Anthony, though, seemed genuinely surprised that Brewer has been able to be as impactful on the offensive end as he has been, as the newcomer has averaged 11 points per game on 47 percent shooting from the field, including 39 percent from three-point range.

"Offensively, he's fitting right in. He's making the right plays offensively. He's cutting when he has to, he is knocking the shot down when he is open, and he is making plays on both ends of the court."

With the Thunder playing the Hawks on Tuesday night, they will begin a tough stretch on Friday night where they will play 11 consecutive games against teams with winning records.

To a man, the Thunder are no doubt hoping that as the competitive gets better, so will Brewer.

McConnell strongly defends Mueller, criticizes Trump for calling Putin .
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell forcefully defended Robert Mueller on Tuesday, saying the special counsel should be allowed to finish his investigation and that legislation was "not necessary" to protect him against the threat of being fired by President Donald Trump. McConnell also was critical of Trump's decision to call Russian President Vladimir Putin to congratulate him on his recent election victory. "I agree with the President's lawyers that Bob Mueller ought to be allowed to finish his job. I think he was an excellent appointment," McConnell told reporters at his weekly news conference in the Capitol.
