Ex-official: Chances missed to save murdered Kansas boy

Ex-official: Chances missed to save murdered Kansas boy A Kansas state welfare official says multiple chances were missed to save a 3-year-old Wichita boy before he was found encased in concrete. Dianne Keech says the "point of no return" was when the Department of Children and Families failed to call 911 last April after receiving a report that Evan Brewer had hit his head while taking a bath and "had no pulse" before being revived. The Wichita Eagle reports that Keech, a DCF deputy director from 2013 to 2015, says the agency "never recovered from that point on." Evan's body was found in September.A DFC spokeswoman declined to comment.

There's simply no denying Corey Brewer's impact.

The Thunder are 3-0 since he entered the starting lineup. Since then, he's averaged 15 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game and has given the Thunder a noticeable jolt of energy, on both sides of the ball.

Brewer's impact hasn't been overlooked by Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony, and it wasn't any more evident than during Monday night's 106-101 victory over the Kings.

The game was closer than many felt it should have been. The Kings, after all, have nothing to play for. The Thunder, on the other hand, have every incentive to win as many games as possible.

‘They’re Trying to Kill Me!’: Police Must Hand Over 911 Call of Escort in L.I. Serial Killer Case

‘They’re Trying to Kill Me!’: Police Must Hand Over 911 Call of Escort in L.I. Serial Killer Case A New York judge ordered police to produce transcripts of the 911 calls made on the night 24-year-old Craigslist escort Shannan Gilbert went missing, PEOPLE confirms. The request to release the tapes was made by the attorney for Gilbert’s family, who insist she was murdered despite the longtime contention of police that she was not.

Despite that, the upstart Kings held a lead as late as the third quarter, and even though the Thunder were able to take control of the game in the fourth, the Kings were twice able to cut the lead to just three points, the final time being with about 24 seconds remaining in the game.

Appropriately, it was Brewer who went to the line and iced the game with two clutch free throws. In the end, he tallied 16 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony each took note.

"He's been doing a good job," Westbrook said of Brewer since his arrival.

"He's getting his hands on basketballs. Obviously, being savvy and knowing the game is a huge part. He's doing a great job."

Anthony echoed those sentiments, as well.

"We knew what he could bring," Anthony said.

Tillerson says several steps needed for U.S. talks with North Korea

Tillerson says several steps needed for U.S. talks with North Korea Several steps will be necessary to agree the location and scope of talks between the United States and North Korea, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Monday. Tillerson has been involved in discussions within the U.S. administration on a possible meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un."There will be several steps necessary to agree on location, agree on the scope of those discussions. It's very early stages. We've not heard anything directly back from North Korea but we expect to hear something directly from them," he said during a visit to Nigeria's capital, Abuja.

"I think everyone knew what he brings to the game defensively."

Anthony, though, seemed genuinely surprised that Brewer has been able to be as impactful on the offensive end as he has been, as the newcomer has averaged 11 points per game on 47 percent shooting from the field, including 39 percent from three-point range.

"Offensively, he's fitting right in. He's making the right plays offensively. He's cutting when he has to, he is knocking the shot down when he is open, and he is making plays on both ends of the court."

With the Thunder playing the Hawks on Tuesday night, they will begin a tough stretch on Friday night where they will play 11 consecutive games against teams with winning records.

To a man, the Thunder are no doubt hoping that as the competitive gets better, so will Brewer.

Rangers GM: Lincecum apologized for beating us in World Series .
Tim Lincecum, the newest member of the Texas Rangers, is asking for forgiveness. Lincecum and the Rangers have a history with one another from the 2010 World Series, when the two-time Cy Young winner - then still a star with the San Francisco Giants - broke hearts across the Metroplex with a brilliant performance in that series, including a Game 5 for the ages that clinched the Giants' championship.
