Extra innings to start with runner at 2nd base in minors

Extra innings throughout the minor leagues will start with a runner at second base.
In addition, a 15-second pitch clock when there are no runners on base will be implemented at Triple-A and Double-A, the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues said Wednesday. The timer will remain at 20 seconds with runners on base, the same as it has been since 2015.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Tim Tebow was reassigned by the New York Mets to their minor league camp after he went 0 for 4 with four strikeouts in an exhibition against the Houston Astros.
The former NFL quarterback and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner hit .056 (1 for 18) with 11 strikeouts in seven big league exhibition games. The 30-year-old, who is not on the Mets' 40-man roster, has been hampered by a left ankle sprain.

Tebow's only hit was a hard single to center off Washington's Erick Fedde on March 2. He has been used solely as a designated hitter or pinch hitter.
Tebow, an outfielder, can appear in games for New York but would have to be brought over from the minor league side.
Opinion: Major League Baseball may have made a huge mistake

I gave my take on the man-on-second rule yesterday: it seems unnecessary and will lead to almost every extra inning starting with a bunt followed by an intentional walk, which is nothing anyone wants to see. That aside, I find it more of an eye-rolling thing than a source of outrage.
Video by USA Today Sports
New York also reassigned right-hander Kevin McGowan to the minor league camp on Tuesday and optioned right-handers Gerson Bautista, Marcos Molina, Jamie Callahan and Corey Oswalt to minor league affiliates.

The Angels, however, like what they see in their Japanese star, who is likely to make their Opening Day roster. There is a reason no one, not even great two-way prospects such as Dave Winfield and Josh Hamilton, had seriously attempted, let alone pulled off, this double play: Baseball is too specialized, with hitters and pitchers on separate, detailed, daily programs, to allow for someone to do both.

The fairly straightforward reason minor league baseball players deserve more money .
An amendment in the government's new spending bill aims to keep minor leaguers underpaid.Players selected in the Rule 5 Draft must remain on the 25-man roster of their new teams for an entire season or be returned to their original organizations, so the Twins held on to Santana even though he was outright terrible in 2000. Johan Santana did not become Johan Santana - the Johan Santana, the two-time Cy Young Award winner and one of the best pitchers of his era - until after a stint in Class AAA ball in 2002 spent developing his changeup.
