Report: Most teams wouldn’t even sign Dez Bryant at the league minimum

Report: Most teams wouldn’t even sign Dez Bryant at the league minimum Dez Bryant‘s reputation in the NFL appears to be preceding him. Bryant has indicated that he cares more about playing for the right team than making the right money, even suggesting that he cares more about staying in the NFC East so he can play the Cowboys twice than anything else. But there may not be many teams willing to sign Bryant for any amount of money.Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that there are “far more” teams unwilling to pay Bryant the league minimum salary than there are teams that would consider signing Bryant for any contract.

But that changed in 2017 . Bryant had a blowup on the sideline during the Cowboys ’ Christmas Eve loss to the Seahawks right after he dropped a crucial pass. Bryant averaged just over 52 yards per game last season . He was the perfect WR for Tony Romo, but not Dak Prescott.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant (88) drops a pass as he' s tackled by Kansas City Chiefs free safety Ron Parker (38) during the fourth quarter of an NFL game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Bryant, who had spent his entire career with the Cowboys prior to being released on April 13, recorded 69 catches for 838 yards and six touchdowns last season, but it wasn't enough for the franchise to retain him.

Although Bryant is a free agent, Cowboys wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal noted that No. 88 wasn't close to approaching Pro Bowl form in 2017.

"I still saw he's physical and violent at the route top," Lal said of Bryant to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News. "He's still one of the best slant runners in the league.

"Without getting into specifics, I just saw more inconsistencies in his game."

Lal was asked to specify how or when Bryant was inconsistent, but he declined.

"I really don't want to get into specifics in that, but a general feeling," he said.

Bryant has yet to sign with a new team since his release.

Dak Prescott wants to be “the best quarterback Cowboys ever had” .
Stephen Jones said last week he wants Dak Prescott to earn league MVP honors this season, giving the Cowboys even more reason to pay the quarterback a deal he “deserves.” He wants to become “the best quarterback that the Cowboys ever had.” That’s saying something considering Hall of Famers Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman wore the star on their helmets, and Tony Romo owns most of the team’s passing marks.
