Yoenis Cespedes crushes 3 home runs in Mets 14-4 rout of Phillies The crown was shoved in the bottom of Yoenis Cespedes’ locker, sitting there haphazardly with some of his personal items. The music in the visiting clubhouse at Citizens Bank Park, blasted on Monday night after a one-run win, was softer and the celebration sounded less raucous.Three home runs and four extra-base hits was fun for Cespedes and seven home runs by the Mets in a 14-4 thrashing of the Phillies was a good time for the Mets all around.BOX SCORE:  METS 14, PHILLIES 4But it seemed more like Cespedes and the Mets were finally settling Tuesday night.

It’s never too early to panic at Citi Field, right? After ominous injury updates all afternoon, the level of concern for this team was on high alert when Yoenis Cespedes went limping off the field Thursday night. The Cuban slugger said he felt a “shock” in his left hamstring, forcing him out of the game and likely out of the next two to three.

“I have an MRI tomorrow, but the doctor checked me out and he said it should be two or three days,” Cespedes said through an interpreter.

Mets Considering Using Jeurys Familia in Truly Bizarre Way When He Returns

Not that it's necessarily a terrible idea, but it simply seems like an idea that never needed to be hatched. Mets ' injuries pile on as Yoenis Cespedes to get MRI on hamstring . Most of all, it allowed Collins and the Mets to make sure Cespedes is healthy before he gets back on the field — rain or not.

That certainly sent the panic level into high gear at Citi Field.

Having lost four players (Lucas Duda, Wilmer Flores, Travis d’Arnaud and now Cespedes), two from the middle of the lineup and two first basemen, in the last 12 hours, the Mets are stretched thin. Not to mention the long-term absences of David Wright, Seth Lugo and Steven Matz.

Their bullpen has been taxed, their bats are cold and now the Mets are being plagued by injuries just in time for their first meeting of the season against their division rival Nationals, who come into Citi Field Friday night.

And on top of that, after losing to the Phillies 6-4 Thursday night, the Mets (8-8) dropped their fifth of six games.

So go ahead, panic a little if you want.

On a double play ball in the fifth, Cespedes ran halfway to second and pulled up before limping gingerly off the field and immediately into the clubhouse. He said that was the first time he felt the pain. He has had similar injuries in the past but said this “does not feel as serious.”

MLB suspends Marte 80 games for positive test

MLB suspends Marte 80 games for positive test Starling Marte, an All-Star outfielder emerging as one of the game’s top all-around talents, was suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball after testing positive for nandrolone, a devastating blow for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Marte, 23, won a Gold Glove in 2016 and compelled the Pirates to move franchise player Andrew McCutchen from center to right field in the off-season. He batted .311 with a .362 on-base percentage, and stole 47 bases last season.“I have been informed that I have tested positive in one of the tests that are regularly done in my job," Marte said in a statement.

Mets ' injuries pile on as Yoenis Cespedes to get MRI on hamstring . When a reporter asked Collins what the “determining factor” would be in whether Cespedes started Tuesday’s game, the Mets skipper joked, “If we play in this condition, you would be in left field before Cespedes tonight.”

New York Mets left fielder Yoenis Cespedes will undergo an MRI on his left hamstring and manager Terry Collins called the injury "a concern".

But the Mets have to be realistic.

“Anytime you are talking about hamstrings it’s a concern obviously,” Mets manager Terry Collins said. “We’ll know more tomorrow.”

Before Cespedes hurt his hamstring, Collins was already scrambling to fill out a lineup card. Duda and Flores are both out indefinitely with freak and uncertain injuries. That forced Collins to move his hottest hitter, Jay Bruce, from right field to make his fourth career start at first base.

Duda, who suffered a hyperextended left elbow in Wednesday night’s game, had an MRI on the elbow and saw an orthopedist on Thursday. Still, the team was unsure when they would get him back.

Flores’ injury is even odder and more uncertain. He was admitted to the hospital with an infection in his left knee after Wednesday’s game.

“He’s actually played the last couple of days with discomfort,” Collins said. “And so we had him see a doctor and the doctors have said he needs some time to let the medication take effect.”

The Mets are hopeful this will not lead to a stint on the disabled list, but there are no guarantees.

“Right now, it’s probably a day or two,” Collins said. “It could increase to be more. But right now, it’s a day or two.”

D’Arnaud, who suffered a contusion of the right wrist on a strange throwing accident Wednesday night, seemingly will be OK. Scheduled to be off anyway on Thursday because Noah Syndergaard was starting, d’Arnaud said that he would attempt to throw on Friday. He pinch hit in Thursday night’s game.

The Mets had a bench of just two healthy players after Wednesday night’s game, before they called up Kevin Plawecki. They are likely going to have to make another roster move, possibly putting one of these injured players on the disabled list, just to protect themselves with a bench before Friday night’s opener to the Nationals series.

This all seems to have a familiar ring to it.

The Mets suffered through mounting season-ending injuries last season, including losing Yoenis Cespedes for 14 games to a nagging quad injury that eventually put him on the disabled list in August. The Mets have seemingly picked up in 2017 right where they left off.

Thursday night certainly had the feeling of, “Oh no, here we go again.”

Collins said it is disappointing, but something the Mets have to fight through.

“Yeah….probably it’s going to creep in there….the fact we came out and we worked so hard to keep everybody healthy…,” the obviously frustrated Mets manager said. “In Ces’ case, everybody talks about this guy (not) running balls out, well he beat out an infield single. He was running hard to second. He ran hard after two fly balls tonight. Those things happen. Lucas, those accidents are going to happen. Same with Travis. Wilmer’s….you can’t avoid those things.

“You are allowed to say them to yourself, but you don’t want to say it too loud,” Collins said. “Our training room is starting to fill up again and we don’t need that again.”
