Game 4 of the ALDS between the Astros and Red Sox was certainly not a conventional affair. But it sure was an entertaining one, with ace starters looking like ace relievers — at least for a time — and an ace reliever failing to hold off Houston’s final rally.

Lance Berkman’s upcoming speech at Cardinals 'Christian Day' draws ire from LGBTQ+ community

Lance Berkman’s upcoming speech at Cardinals 'Christian Day' draws ire from LGBTQ+ community The St. Louis Cardinals are hosting “Christian Day” once again this year, but one of their speaker choices has some in the LGBQT+ community questioning the decision. Former Cardinals outfielder Lance Berkman will speak during the celebration. That's the same Lance Berkman who has condemned equal rights for LGBT people in Houston and called out a law that allowed transgendered people to use bathrooms that align with their gender identity. Naturally, the St. Louis Pride Center doesn’t think Berkman is the model spokesman.

Game 4 of the ALDS between the Astros and Red Sox was certainly not a conventional affair. But it sure was an entertaining one, with ace starters looking like ace relievers — at least for a time — and an ace reliever failing to hold off Houston’s final rally.

Houston starter Joe Musgrove allowed one run over the first five innings, a home run by Bogaerts in the first inning. He went into the sixth inning having retired eight in a row then got Mookie Betts on a fly ball to left field.

A good start turned bad in a hurry. Dustin Pedroia drew a walk before Bogaerts hit an 0-and-2 pitch into the stands in left field.

After Hanley Ramirez singled and Andrew Benintendi walked, Astros manager A.J. Hinch replaced Musgrove with righthander James Hoyt.

Jackie Bradley Jr.’s double to right field drove in two runs, Benintendi hustling his way around. The Sox led, 5-2.

In all, the Sox sent eight men to the plate in the inning. With Price at 104 pitches and the bullpen fresh, it was time for a new pitcher. Heath Hembree, who had been warming up in the fifth inning, was ready.

The Red Sox had some flashbacks to October in their big loss to the Astros on Thursday, but it wasn’t all bad. To this point in the spring, the Red Sox had been holding off on getting their big starters to the mound.

But Sox manger John Farrell sent Price back to the mound, likely because Jake Marisnick was 0 for 2 on the night and 0 for 7 against Price in his career. But this time he hit a 454-foot home run to left center.

A batter too late, Farrell went to Hembree. His third pitch was hit deep to left field for another home run. That ended a streak of 26 consecutive scoreless innings by Red Sox relievers.

Hembree allowed two singles in the inning but managed to hold the lead.

The Sox took a 6-4 lead in an eventful top of the seventh inning.

Hoyt drilled Betts on the right knee with one out. Pedroia then got hit in the back and yelled at the pitcher, causing umpire Greg Gibson to issue a warning to both teams.

Farrell came out of the dugout to escort Pedroia to first base as the crowd booed. Houston replaced Hoyt with Chris Devenski. He tried to pick Betts off second and hit him in the right elbow.

Now doubly bruised, Betts stayed in the game and scored on a single by Bogaerts. When Betts crossed home plate, he high-fived Mitch Moreland with his left hand.
