The U.S. Open is usually one of the toughest scoring events during the year, but it was not the case in 2017.

FOX Sports' Joe Buck was the focus of much amusement around the Internet for mistaking Brooks Koepka's current girlfriend Jena Sims for his ex, Becky Edwards when the golfer won the U.S. Open on Sunday.

A day later, Buck appeared on The Dan Patrick Show and apologized, explaining someone handed him a card that had old information on it:

"We got it right before we got off the air, but that's not the world we live in, these days, you have to do the apology tour for getting the week-old girlfriend wrong, so, sorry world."

Koepka's win shows folly of focusing on a few stars

Koepka's win shows folly of focusing on a few stars
Brooks Koepka's U.S. Open triumph on Sunday was the latest reminder of how the sport used to be before Tiger Woods came along and blew away all preconceived notions of what sort of dominance was possible.
In becoming the seventh consecutive first-time winner of a major championship, Koepka showed that behind the superstars who dominate the headlines are dozens of players who on any given week are capable of beating anyone.

That’s 100% something that could’ ve just fell by the wayside and no one would’ ve even realized Buck ’s error. I ’d sleep with Brooks Koepka . So it’s not shocking that Joe Buck couldn’t pin down who his girlfriend is.

Buck went on to tell a story of something he got wrong that was worse in his mind:

"I've done way worse than this, that's the funny thing. But it was before the age of Twitter and kind of click-bait stuff, when I asked [Arizona Diamondbacks player] Tony Womack at the end of a division series game when he was hugging a woman down on the field and I was interviewing him from the booth. Truth be told, I couldn't really see [her]. But we had just been talking about how he lost his dad on Father's Day that year. He's hugging this woman and I said, 'Hey Tony, I can't imagine how that feels, who're you hugging down there, is that your mom?'

"The needle came off the record and he goes, 'No, that's my wife!'"

Yeah, that's probably worse.

Brooks Koepka once admitted he finds golf ‘kind of boring,’ wishes he played baseball .
And now he's in the hunt for the U.S. OpenBut in the end, it was a good decision, right? No regrets from the man who spent his Sunday jostling for the lead of the U.S. Open, you'd probably think.
