Bayern Munich president Uni Hoeness has criticised Paris Saint-Germain’s willingness to smash the world transfer record by signing Neymar from Barcelona for €222 million.

Hoeness had previously criticised the transfer, branding it "a sign of weakness" on PSG's part, prompting the 25-year-old's agent to later hit back, revealing the Germans had the chance to sign his client for only €24m in 2010.

Nevertheless, a deal was completed little more than a week ago and the Brazil international is slated to make his debut for PSG against Guingamp on Sunday.

“€222m? I don’t think that this Neymar is that good,” Hoeness said, speaking to Sky Sports.

Barcelona are now in a position whereby they are trying to rush in another offensive recruit before the end of the summer transfer window, with Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele an option.

The France international winger has been suspended by BVB for his failure to show up to training as his club try to stymie a move, and his attitude has been criticised by Hoeness, too.

“If a player does not show up at a training session, that is only his responsibility,” he said.

“You should not treat players like gods if they do not behave like gods.

“Dortmund have acted very cleverly and calmly in this situation. If you are a big club, which Borussia Dortmund are, you have to show strength from time to time: either we get what we want, or the player has to stay.

“The transfer deadline will arrive soon and until then they can let him train on another pitch. And if he does not move, he will give go throttle from September 1 since he does not want his value to decrease.”
