The hearing for Elliott's appeal of his six-game suspension concluded Thursday. If a ruling is not made by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, the running back will be eligible to play Week 1 against the New York Giants. For a suspension to be in effect, it needs to be out of the appeal process by that time or the player is automatically eligible for that week's game, though they may still have to serve the entire suspension.

Elliott filed his appeal of a six-game suspension with the NFL on Tuesday, reports . While a ruling on Elliott 's status is not expected over the weekend, the running back's response to Elliott carried 12 times for 80 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Monday 's game against the Lions.

The matter is complicated by the hearing for a temporary restraining order that Elliott and the NFLPA filed against the suspension Friday. A Dallas judge will hear Elliott's arguments to have his suspension blocked at 6:00 p.m. ET Tuesday.

If Henderson rules in favor of Elliott and overturns the suspension, the restraining order will be dropped, and the running back will be eligible to start the 2017 season.

The NFL is asking a federal appeals court to review a judge's decision blocking the league's six-game suspension of Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott in a domestic violence case. The suspension was put on hold last week by a federal judge in Sherman, Texas, about 65 miles north of Dallas. The NFL filed notice with the Eastern District of Texas on Monday that it would appeal to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.The NFL's latest filing came about 12 hours after Elliott rushed for 104 yards in the Cowboys' 19-3 win over the New York Giants at home Sunday night.
