Cavaliers' Isaiah Thomas doesn't plan to have surgery for hip injury
If he were to have surgery, Thomas could miss more than three or four months for recovery. However, without surgery, his timeline to return is unclear. Cleveland can always change their mind and elect for Thomas to have surgery. For now, though, it's fair to believe that he will stick to his current plan. Expect newly signed free agent Derrick Rose to start at point guard during his potentially prolonged absence.Cavs will not address specifics of Isaiah Thomas' hip injury and are not placing a timetable on his return.

© Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports USC's defense likely won't be at full strength Saturday against Texas as linebacker Porter Gustin underwent surgery for a small crack in his toe and is doubtful to play.
"It will be based on the doctors' opinion and the pain of Porter and what he goes through and what he can take, whether he can play or not," head coach Clay Helton told Zach Helfand of the Los Angeles Times. "It's day to day. Porter's a tough kid. I don't know if it's too late for him to play in this game or not. I think he'll be definitely ready for next week but he'll be very close this week."
Helton said Gustin wants to play Saturday against the Longhorns, but the team is taking a cautious approach. The talented linebacker led USC in tackles for loss last season and is a beast in the run game.
