TALLADEGA , Ala. (AP) — Dale Earnhardt Jr .'s farewell tour has officially started. All eyes are on NASCAR's favorite son as he races Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway, a place where he 's adored by the fans and expected to win every time he gets in his Chevrolet.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Fans of Dale Earnhardt Jr . have spent the last four years believing that Jimmie Johnson owed his teammate a favor for pushing Johnson to the win at Talladega Superspeedway in 2011.

There's a lot riding on Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s shoulders this weekend for his last time racing at Talladega Superspeedway.

Thanks to his six wins in addition to Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s 10, that track is known as Earnhardt Country. But it's also put more pressure on the No. 88 Chevrolet driver than usual to drive to Victory Lane in Sunday's Alabama 500 for what would be his first win of the year and probably the last of his career before he retires at the end of the season.

Of course, Dale Jr. is excited and embracing that pressure to win, knowing that so many fans in JR Nation think this track is his best shot at one last victory.

During his Dale Jr. Download podcast this week, he explained:

"I know - whether we are ready for it or not - there are going to be some freaking people at this race track that are counting on us to make a damn show of it. There are two things that are going to be incredibly motivating this weekend, all right? One of them is going to be the fan support that we're gonna see, which I know will be out there strong. They love the Earnhardts at Talladega.

Mountain Dew News Race Preview Sprint Cup Series Talladega . Talladega Superspeedway marks the final race in the Contender Round and Dale Earnhardt , Jr . is the defending winner at the famous track after having won there in May.

Unlike Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart before him , Dale Earnhardt Jr .’s final season in NASCAR isn’t going the way most dreamed it would. He 's had one engine failure and four crashes, to boot, a big part of the reason he has eight finishes in the 30s.

"Also, put that camera on my helmet. So I'm wearing that helmet cam all weekend. And I purposefully asked for that helmet cam for the Talladega race 'cause imagine: With that helmet cam, people (are) gonna be able what you're doing all the time. So it's going to hold me accountable and motivate me to be aggressive. And I wanna put some stuff on film that people are gonna want to watch. Between that and the fan support, I think we're gonna be in the gas all weekend."

With a camera on his helmet, Earnhardt will give fans a view similar to what they saw when he live-streamed the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway this summer.

That's some heavy motivation to get a seventh win at Talladega on Sunday.
