Billy Preston will miss his second consecutive game Tuesday. The Kansas freshman was involved in an auto accident over the weekend. The vehicle appears to be under university scrutiny.

Highly skilled freshman Billy Preston , who considers himself a point forward at heart, has the second-biggest body on the KU roster at 6-foot-10, 240 pounds, smaller only than Azubuike, who checks in at 7-foot, 280. Kentucky, UCLA and Kansas also are on his list.

Elementary school secretary arrested over bomb threat

Elementary school secretary arrested over bomb threat Police in Kansas say an elementary school secretary was arrested Wednesday in connection with an emailed bomb threat that forced a school district to cancel classes and after-school activities over two days earlier this week. Claudia Rodriguez-Oviedo, 32, was being held in the Pratt County jail on felony charges of aggravated criminal threat and unlawful use of computers. In a statement, police said staff members at Pratt High School received the threat from a fake email account Monday.

After scoring 17 points in Wednesday's camp scrimmage at Horejsi Center, Kansas freshman forward Billy Preston talked about his role of playing in the paint and on the perimeter. "Coach ( Bill ) Self in practice don't let me take any breaks," Preston said.

KU’s decision Tuesday night to not dress Preston for the team’s Champions Classic game against Kentucky appears to be part of the new normal in college basketball.

"On Saturday, Billy was involved in a single-vehicle accident on campus," coach Bill Self said in a statement released on Twitter. "There were no injuries, but Billy’s car sustained damage. After I learned about the incident, I reported it to our administration. The administration determined that we needed a clearer financial picture specific to the vehicle. We decided to hold him out of tonight’s game and will continue to do that until the review is complete."

DeCOURCY: Coach K advocates for big changes in sport

That KU chose to be so comparatively open regarding the action against Preston would seem to be a product of the current climate in college basketball. Simply put, if Kansas was concerned anyone associated with the school had committed an NCAA violation, it likely would have remained silent publicly and eventually reported its concern to the enforcement division.

If KU's concern is more related to an outside party — an agent, perhaps, or someone in that area — it might be more willing to speak in this fashion.

Preston is a 6-10, 220-pound forward who played last season at top prep school Oak Hill Academy in Virginia and is originally from Santa Ana, Calif. He was rated the consensus No. 19 prospect in the recruiting class of 2017 and had been expected to contend for a starting job. Self described him as "disappointed and crushed" to learn he would not face Kentucky.

MORE: NCAA president concerned public losing trust in association

Preston didn't play in KU's opener against Tennessee State because he missed curfew and then a class the following day, but it wasn't totally unrelated to that mysterious automobile.

"Last night curfew was 10 p.m., and we fed them and everything,” Self told the Daily Kansas on Friday. "Then he missed class today because he had to go get his car because when he got in last night after curfew, he had to park it illegally."

There has been a lot of hype surrounding the Alabama basketball team this offseason. Alabama officials ruled freshman point guard Collin Sexton ineligible ahead of its exhibition game against Alabama-Huntsville Monday night, per ESPN’s Mark Schlabach and Jeff Goodman. According to the university, Sexton was held out after the NCAA failed to reinstate his eligibility.
