Kelsey Adcock told KCCI Wednesday that she called Des Moines Public Schools when her 4-year-old with special needs failed to show up at day care.

“I was very frantic (and) hysterical,” Adcock said. “(I) started crying immediately.”

Adcock said that every day, a Des Moines school bus transports her son, Boston, from Mitchell Elementary to Leaps and Bounds day care.

She added that routine is crucial for her son because of his special needs.

An Alabama family is demanding answers after a 17- year - old was brutally assaulted by Troy, Ala., police officers in an incident that left the boy bloody and battered, his face swollen beyond recognition. According to WDHN-TV, as reported by WKRG-TV

“So, to show up in a place that he is not familiar with strangers, and it's not day care, yeah, it's very scary,” she said.

Adcock said the bus driver forgot about Boston and dropped off the bus as Boston slept in the back.

“Obviously (it’s) very concerning,” she said. “I called the bus garage and I told them I needed to know where my son is at. He'd been out of school for two hours.”

After sweeping the bus, school officials found Boston.

His grandmother, Jojo Gillespie, said the boy was hot, sweaty and confused.

“It was very upsetting and alarming,” Gillespie said. “(I was) scared to death, obviously.”

Adcock and Gillespie said the incident is not the first time Boston has had issues on the bus.

Adcock said the bus once dropped Boston off at the incorrect address.

“Yesterday, a driver new to her route missed a stop and when she checked the bus, she found a preschool student asleep.

“She radioed in immediately, the student was never alone and he was reunited with a parent. The DMPS transportation director apologized to the parent and met with the family.

“DMPS transports 11,000 students each day over 1.6 million miles annually and we strive for 100% accuracy because every child matters.

“We are always looking for ways to improve bus service and please be assured, we will examine our methods to avoid such incidents in the future.”
