H’Money Siu, 16, of Charlotte, and her sister, 11, had fallen into a river 120 to 150 feet above Rainbow Falls in Transylvania County, a U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman said.She tried to help her younger sister get out of the river, but fell down the waterfall. An older family member managed to grab the other girl, a U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman said.Multiple news outlets reported the fall occurred around noon.

  Search underway for 16-year-old girl who went over 150-foot waterfall A search is underway for a 16-year-old girl who went over a 150-foot waterfall, according to state park officials. (In video above first responders explain the process of waterfall rescues) Katie Hall, with North Carolina State Parks, said the girl went over Rainbow Falls in Transylvania County before midday Wednesday. The Henderson County dive team has been called in to assist in the search, dispatchers said. The waterfall is on U.S. Forestry property, but the State Park service is assisting with the search along with search-and-rescue teams from Transylvania County and surrounding areas. Hall said it could take some time to find the girl because of the volume of water and the speed at which it's moving. She said the teen's parents were on the way to the park. Just before 2 p.m., Hall said the effort is a recovery, not a rescue. Previous stories: A man died in June at Rainbow Falls when he tried to save his dog. The Shasta County Sheriff's office says a man fell to his death jumping off Burney Falls Friday.

The unidentified 30-year-old didn't surface in the pool below the falls after his jump and a dive team recovered his body at the location in McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park near Shasta.

A call was made to 911 at 5:47 p.m. and the Burney Fire Department, California State Parks, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the sheriff's dive team and a California Highway Patrol helicopter responded.

The man was pronunced dead at the scene.

Draped in ferns, Burney Falls stands 129 feet tall and pumps 100 million gallons of  spring water every day. President Theodore Roosevelt allegedly called the falls the "Eighth Wonder of the World" and it was declared a National Natural Landmark in 1984.
