  Bolton meets with SKorea, Japan national security advisers President Donald Trump's new national security adviser held talks Thursday with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts. John Bolton met with Chung Eui-yong, the South Korean official who last month announced outside the White House Trump's surprise decision to meet with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un.

Kim made a grand gesture to show Trump he’s “special,” one which would instantly hand him an “accomplishment” that Obama never managed, and In which case, as Mr. Trump has said , we really will have “run out of road” on North Korea. Pence, Rubio fill in for Trump at Summit of the Americas.

"We have had direct talks ," Trump said alongside Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Both men hope the summit can smooth over differences on that issue as well as trade. At one point, Trump appeared to tell reporters that he himself had spoken to Kim .

(Bloomberg) -- Donald Trump wants to go it alone with Kim Jong Un, according to a South Korean newspaper report.

The U.S. president hopes to speak with the North Korean leader at their upcoming summit with only interpreters present, the Chosun Ilbo reported Thursday, citing multiple unidentified South Korean diplomatic sources.

On any objective assessment the storm of anger and criticism news of the Trump - Kim summit has provoked is baffling. No one is expecting a comprehensive settlement of the whole conflict emerging from a single summit , and it is absurd to talk as if that is what might happen.

The White House didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump believes groundbreaking results can be attained only if the number of accompanying officials is minimized, one of the people was quoted as saying by the newspaper. This reflects Trump’s personality as he wants all the spotlight focused on him, the report added.

CIA director Mike Pompeo delivered Trump’s intention during his recent clandestine meeting with Kim in Pyongyang, the newspaper said. It’s unknown how Kim reacted to the suggestion.

Chosun also reported, without citing anyone, that Trump aims to draw up a specific timetable -- most likely between six months and a year -- for North Korea’s denuclearization at the summit.

Trump said Wednesday at a press conference with Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that he’ll abandon plans for -- or even walk out of -- a summit with Kim if he doesn’t think it will be "fruitful."
