Pentagon: Latest North Korea missile launch 'a threat'

Pentagon: Latest North Korea missile launch 'a threat' The Pentagon on Monday called North Korea's launch of three short-range ballistic missiles on Saturday a “threat,” though the missiles did not put the U.S. in harm’s way."You're still firing missiles, so that's a threat," Pentagon spokesman Col. Robert Manning told reporters at the Pentagon.

North Korea announced that it had successfully detonated a hydrogen bomb on Sunday, its sixth and most powerful nuclear test so far. Pyongyang oversaw two ICBM tests in July and flew an intermediate-range missile over neighboring Japan in late August.

South Korea is expecting the potential launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) by North Korea on Saturday to celebrate the anniversary of the reclusive nation's founding, The Associated Press reports.

The launches may keep with the North's tradition of conducting missile tests on significant dates or holidays, according to a South Korean official from Seoul's Unification Ministry.

President Trump said Thursday that the North Korean regime has been "behaving badly" and reaffirmed the potential of the U.S. using military force to deal with North Korea's provocations.

North Korea announced that it had successfully detonated a hydrogen bomb on Sunday, its sixth and most powerful nuclear test so far. Pyongyang oversaw two ICBM tests in July and flew an intermediate-range missile over neighboring Japan in late August.

"I would prefer not going the route of the military, but it's something certainly that could happen," Trump said at a press conference. "Hopefully, we are not going to have to use it on North Korea.  But if we do use it on North Korea, it will be a very sad day for North Korea."
